Dressing up a Gift Card

We have a great way for you to present your next gift card!

Some people love receiving gifts cards, even if we don't always love giving them. If you're like us, you find picking out a gift is WAY more personal and fun, after all, gift cards can be kind of boring to give. We can help change that! Create this cute gift card holder! We promise you'll have fun making it and feel better about giving a gift card.

Here's how it's done.....

Materials:

PAPER:
1 two sided paper cut to 7 inches x 2 1/2 inches
1 solid coordinating paper cut to 4 inches by 2 3/4 inches
Embellishment pieces in coordinating colors/patterns cut to:
2 1/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches (first layer)
2 inches x 1 inch (second layer)
1 3/4 inches x 3/4 inch (third layer)

RIBBON:
coordinating color cut to 14 inches
(or get creative and use a different style closure - see end of this post for examples)

STEP 1:
Fold 7 x 2 1/2 strip of paper at 3 1/2 inches

STEP 2:
Attach folded paper to 4 x 2 3/4 paper

STEP 3:
Attach first layer of embellishment to center of folded paper

STEP 4:
Attach ribbon to center of embellishment first layer so that 4 inches lay to the right and 10 inches lay to the left. The 10 inch piece will wrap around the holder and tie to the 4 inch piece.

STEP 5:
Attach second embellishment layer centered onto the first embellishment layer
STEP 6:
Stamp third embellishment layer as desired or use any decorative element you like. Attach the third embellishment layer to the first and second layers, centered.

STEP 7:
Attach the gift card inside the holder with glue dots or clear photo corners
(or whatever other sticky substance you like)

STEP 8:
Take a moment to admire your project....you're done! GOOD JOB!

Here are some more examples....we encourage "scraplifting" so ENJOY!

  2. I will be the first to admit that I don't have a really great craft gene. So can you tell me how you get your ribbons to lay like this?

  3. Thanks for the question Jolene. I ran the ribbon through my 1.5 inch Xyron Create A Sticker. Great tool! Not too expensive and it's awesome for ribbon, making letter stickers that aren't already adhesive (like with the Cricut), and I've even run buttons through it.

  4. Oops! I take back what I said about the ribbon! I just realized I was thinking of a different project. For this project, the ribbon naturally lays flat when tied. But I still think everyone should get a Xyron! :)

  5. One of those would be a lot of fun, wouldn't it! I may have to check into it. Thanks a bunch, Kelli/Crystal :)
