Soon-to-be pins

We're back with more of our homemade baby shower ideas from Kelli's shower!  Awhile back we were shopping around our local craft store for some decorating supplies when we came across some pins designed especially for baby showers.  There was a pin for the Soon-to-be Mom, Soon-to-be Grandma, etc.  We really liked the idea of giving Kelli's family something special to highlight their new role.  Also, Kelli's mom is EXTREMELY excited to be a grandma again, so we just knew she would love a button to make sure everyone at the shower could see that she is the grandma-to-be! The problem - the pins we saw at the store were U-G-L-Y  and the colors definitely did not match her shower theme.  So what do we do?? Make our own of course!

Here's how we made them...

Materials:

Inkssentials 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch Memory Glass,
7 - 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch squares of
coordinating patterned paper,
1 sheet of vellum paper, Inkssentials Memory Foil Tape,
a strong adhesive, 14 super heavy duty small
craft magnets, gemstones or other
coordinating embellishments. (optional)

How to:

Step 1: Cut patterned paper to get 7 - 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inch squares for the background of your button.

Step 2: Write out the message you want on your buttons on vellum paper. We printed ours using our computer, but you could also handwrite or stamp a message. Keep your message within a 1 x 1 inch space.

Step 3: Cut out your messages from the vellum paper. Then layer the patterned paper, the vellum paper, and memory glass for each pin in that order.

Step 4: Wrap the memory foil around the edge of each button, folding the excess foil around to the front and back. Be sure you leave the same amount of foil showing on each side so that it will hold all of your layers together.

Step 5: Use a strong adhesive to put a magnet on the back of your button.  Then let another magnet stick to the back so that whoever wants to wear the button can use both magnets to keep it on their shirt.

Step 6: Embellish the front of your buttons - we added some bling! Now you have a custom pin for your party!

The Soon-to-be's at Kelli's shower all proudly wore their custom pins and walked away with a special keepsake to put up on their fridge afterwards!
