Reduce - Reuse - Recycle Part 2

Guess what we used to make this adorable mini book!

Give up?

TP rolls!

We have received a lot of feedback in the last couple days about what in the world we planned to create with those toliet paper rolls.  So what do you do with all those left over  rolls?! You make a mini-books out of them!  We had a lot of fun creating this mini-book.

It's the perfect size to give as a gift and your friends will never guess how you made it! (you will want to tell them though, since it is so cool!) Crystal made this book to show off some of her favorite sailing memories of 2009.

MATERIALS:
3 toliet paper rolls
3 - 5 x 7 inch sheets of paper
 hole punch and/or eyelet setter
ring to bind your book together
a strong adhesive (yep, we used Terrifically Tacky Tape, again!)
eyelets (optional)

HOW TO:
Step 1: fold the toliet paper rolls flat.
We used a bone folder to make a good fold that will keep the rolls flat.

Step 2: wrap a 5 x 7 inch sheet of paper around each roll and use a strong adhesive to hold it in place. You will need to center
the paper on the rolls leaving approximately 1/4 inch extra paper overlapping on each end of the roll.

Step 3: cut a slit on each corner of the paper that is overlapping the rolls. Trim the corner at an angle (see below)

Step 4:  cut off one side of the paper that is overlapping the rolls on one end (see below). Fold the remaining paper on the end over the top of the roll (over to the oposite side, not inside), like an envelope. Use a stong adhesive to hold it in place. The idea is to create a closed end. This will be the side where the ring is placed to bind the book.

Step 5: on the other end of the roll, fold both of the overlapping flaps of paper to the inside of the rolls - creating a pocket.

Step 6: punch a hole on the top corner of each roll. Punch one and then use it as a template to make sure  the others are punched in the same spot.  Add an eyelet to create a finished look.

Step 7: Repeat for the remaining rolls

Step 8: now the fun part! Embellish each side of the rolls with pictures, paper, and embellies. Don't forget to take advantage of the pockets you created! We made little tags to pull out for journaling the story. Put the ring through the holes in each roll and you are done!

We know we have said it before, but who knew recycling could be this fun?!  Hopefully you are feeling inspired and will accept our challenge too! Join us tomorrow and link up your recycled creation.  Plus, there is still time to get in on the It's in the Bag Giveaway. The winner will be announced Friday!

Before we go we wanted to give a shout out to our new friend Stacey at Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Boy!  Thanks so much for featuring us on your blog yesterday!  It's so fun to meet new people who love to craft like us!

Happy Craftin!
